Weekend Family Events - July 28 and July 29
Just think - if Mayor Bloomberg had his way a few years back, do you know what we'd all be doing this weekend? Complaining about massive traffic disruptions, grumbling about heavy handed security checkpoints and probably stocking up on canned soup and bottled water after being advised not to leave our homes for 2 weeks. That, or we would have left town in high style financed by the money we would have made renting our apartments on airbnb. But alas, we lost and London won. So while we watch Michael Phelps accumulate more medals than the average Chinese gymnast has had birthdays, in the spirit of the Olympics, let's celebrate some of the different cultural influences on our great city this weekend.

Here are some highlights from this weekend's upcoming events.

Weekend Family Events - July 21 and July 22
Summer is in full swing and everyone must be sporting some sort of tan by now (except my pasty white husband). If not, get out this weekend and explore the tons of events in the city, especially all the events going on near the water. Don't forget, 4 out of 5 of our boroughs are on islands! So get the family together, grab your sunscreen, and get ready for a splashing good time this weekend.

Weekend Family Events - July 14 and July 15
"You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good bye."

Those are lyrics from Crosby Stills Nash Young, "Teach Your Children". While traveling "my road" I try my best to work hard and show my little one everything life has to offer with fun lessons along the way. I learned a hugely interesting fact this week about plants "talking" with each other through sound. They click their roots together. We have some flowers, herbs and a tomato plant on our balcony and I try to teach my little one about caring for the plants because they're living things and we need to treat them right and take care of them to reap their wondrous benefits. This weekend along with some wild dance parties and super family fun there are also some events that highlight our ecosystem and food chain. And of course many "good eats."

Here's the round up of what is going on this weekend.

4th of July Fun Family Events
Ah, July 4th. The 185th day of the year. In leap years it is the 186th day, thankyouverymuch. It's a wonderful day to celebrate the great men of the colonies that declared us independent from Great Britain. Two of those great men John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both coincidentally died on the same day: July 4th 1826 which was also the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. For this, the 236th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence lets party it up to make Adams, Jefferson, Franklin among the other great leaders proud. We can watch people stuff their faces with massive amount of nitrates in a matter of minutes. Watch explosions in the sky. Party like it's the 18th Century. And blast Katy Perry's "Firework" all day and night long! Get your families geared up. Here's the list of what's poppin' along with the fireworks this July 4th 2012.
