Family Events - Labor Day Weekend 2012
Well, if you're not heading out of town this Labor Day Weekend, then park you and your family at Governors Island and enjoy the last licks of Summer vacation. They are having a bunch of fun events this weekend, and besides, technically you're off the island of Manhattan and on another island so think of it as a mini vacation! Okay, we admit it's not St Barts but it's still fun. Since Labor Day weekend is the traditional good bye to summer weekend, give your kids a good "farewell to free times", and then sigh a huge sigh of relief because school will be back in full swing in a couple of days. Now let's all join in chorus and sing, see you in September...

Weekend Family Events - August 25 and August 26
As the great Dr. Seuss wrote, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Well folks that's how I feel as summer is inching slowly away from us. Don't let go of summer just yet! There are so many fun events to attend this weekend. Grab a hold of some sunshine and show summer that you're still here to party. This weekend's events are filled with music, festivals, carefree partying and yes, a hint of back to school.

Weekend Family Events - August 18 and August 19
You can't know where you're going until you know where you've been. I have no idea where the quote is from (yes I googled it) but I do know that this weekend has plenty of fun activities that explore and celebrate the past. Go back to the roaring 20's with two great jazz events. Celebrate some community history at a couple of street fairs. Show your family and learn all about the crafts of yesteryear (no it doesn't require a trip to Amish country). Become sailors on a historic ship from the 1800's. And before summer's a thing of the past, come and enjoy the Third Annual Ice Cream Sunday.

Weekend Family Events - August 11 and August 12
To be or not to be? That is the question. Here at igokids we like to say to go, or not to go? This weekend is full of plays and performances for the entire family to sit back, relax and enjoy, including some that feature the works of some guy named William Shakespeare. So head out on the town this weekend with your family and pay homage to the great poets and writers of yesteryear as well as some talented new ones as well. And if sitting back and relaxing is not "in the books" for you, then get up and Dance! There are lots of fun music shows and concerts too. Whatever you decide, may we beseech thee to no longer tarry thy thoughts and henceforth seek thy good time!

Weekend Family Events - August 4 and August 5
Well, we're heading into week 2 of the Olympics. This weekend, take a break from the "telly" (that's TV in Britain) and create a mini Olympics of your own with all the great events going on all over New York City. Paddle for Gold (and autism awareness) in Brooklyn, watch a professional tennis tournament in the Bronx, ride a zip line in Manhattan, go for equestrian glory riding a carousel in Staten Island, and watch dragon boat racing in Queens. Plus, enough summer festivals and fun going on to make it seem like you're in the heart of the Olympic Village.
