UWS Kid-Friendly - No Kid’s Menu Restaurants
If a restaurant offers a kid-friendly menu does that automatically mean they’re friendly to kids? That question is highly debatable. Living in New York City we have the good fortune of eating out at some the top restaurants and best food establishments in the world, whenever we want, and many of these we frequent over and over again, like our own personal dining rooms. And when we have kids we think, oh no, will we ever see the inside of some of our favorite eateries again? Will they accept that we are no longer requesting a table for two? Do we really want to start choosing places to eat out just because they have kid-friendly menus, high chairs and changing tables? Will we ever eat after 5pm again without paying a babysitter $100, or more? Well it doesn’t have to be that way at all. You can still have your favorite restaurant and bring your kid to eat at it too.

A Fun Family Visit to Coney Island
A native Brooklynite, I grew up just a few minutes from Coney Island in the neighboring area of Sheepshead Bay. You might be surprised to learn that I haven’t visited the historic boardwalk amusement park since my husband and I watched the Friday night fireworks there on our first date almost a decade ago; moreover, I have never once been there with either of my two children. After Superstorm Sandy ravaged the shores of New York City last year, the Surf Avenue icon took a colossal hit and many were left wondering if it would ever be the same there again. So I recently decided to pay a visit and see for myself, in the hopes that it wasn’t too late to finally see Brooklyn’s beloved Coney Island through the eyes of my children.

Comic and Collector's Stores Roundup
You can't avoid it. Super hero fever has taken over TV and Movies. Turn on Disney XD and you'll see Marvel Comics' heroes running wild. Switch over to Cartoon Network and you'll see Robin, the Boy Wonder, leading his team on Teen Titans Go. Head over to the movies and your kids will call out for Spider-Man, Superman and Iron Man. But sometimes you wish they'd just pick up a book. The Comic Book store is a great way to bolster your children's interest in reading, while supporting their love of heroes. It's also a place where you can pick up cool toys, t-shirts and get a little nostalgic about your own childhood. Here are a list of cool comic and collector shops around New York City. Since many parents have older kids as well as strollers, we've pointed which shops are stroller friendly.

Best Places for Kids to Take Golf Lessons in New York City
When was the last time you played golf in New York City? Crazy thought? Well it doesn’t need to be. Most parents, when thinking of sporting activities for their children to participate in throughout New York City, typically gravitate towards soccer, baseball, swimming and martial arts. Golf is probably lower on their list, if at all, because let’s face it, this is New York City, not Florida. For city dwellers, believe it or not, golf lessons are just as available as soccer classes and they’re happening all year round…rain or shine.

Rainy Day Fun in Staten Island
For adults, waking up to the pitter-patter of rain against the window makes most people want to crawl under the covers and go right back to bed. Kids, on the other hand, will rarely let a little bad weather keep them from having fun. Rain or shine, my kids have never once said they’d rather just stay in and relax all day. Indoor activities will keep them occupied for a little while, but you can only build so many pillow forts. Nothing compares to getting out of the house. Here are a few fun ways to keep busy in Staten Island on a rainy day.

Affordable Children's Clothing Stores in South Brooklyn
If a store like Century 21 had existed in the Roaring 20s, even the most lavish of moms and dandy dads might have thought twice about spending a fortune on children’s apparel and necessities. No matter what the economic climate, families are going to have to open their wallets a bit wider when that bundle of joy arrives home. But that doesn’t mean every stitch of clothing or shoe has to be handmade in Milan. Frugal parents know just where they can cut costs—yoga pants and bodysuits, I’m looking at you—and they do their research to find stores that meet those needs. Luckily, if you’re shopping in South Brooklyn, there are a host of affordable clothing and apparel options for babies, children, and teens. Here’s a list of the top ten most bang-for-your-buck shops in Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst:

Have a Whale of a Good Time at the American Museum of Natural History
Deep inside the hallowed halls of American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), is one of the city's greatest treasures. A giant blue whale hangs suspended there over a darkened hall teaming with exhibits about ocean life and the majestic creatures that dwell in the depths of the sea. I go to the Hall of Oceans to clear my head and to remind myself that the world we live in is full of magic.

8 Favorite New York City-themed Children’s Books
New York City is often the inspiration and influence for so much of what we experience across the country, be it pop culture, movies, theatre, music, fashion and even food. Because of the city’s vastness, and my suburban upbringing, when my son was born all my friends (and a lot of my family) were stunned that I would actually think of raising him in New York City. I respectfully let them know that they were crazy, as I couldn’t wait to introduce him to everything this great big city had to offer. Of course, being totally lost on how to actually raise my son, I had no idea where to start to introduce him to this great big place. Unlike parenting where there are no manuals, I had a whole world of New York City-themed children’s books to teach me. The following is a list of my favorite 8 must-reads for parents of little ones, and if your child is anything like mine, you’ll be reading them over and over and over for years to come!

Luxury Children's Clothing Boutiques in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights
Let’s face it: kids are messy. With this is mind, parents are usually content to dress their little ones in sturdy jeans, cozy sweatpants, and T-shirts that can take a little finger paint and keep on ticking. But there are days when even the wildest of dervishes must don a dress or suit and play host at their own Christening or attend a birthday party or holiday soiree. Maybe there is no special occasion. Perhaps mom or dad wakes up one morning, glances at those denim baby overalls hanging on the chair and thinks: so help me, if I have to dress my child in one more pair of overalls, I will go nuts. It’s quite possible this scenario explains the origin of the baby tutu.
