The Week Ahead: August 31 - September 6  
Now that August is a fond memory, we’re officially in back-to-school mode. Thankfully, with Labor Day falling on September 7 this year, we can still squeeze in a few more summer festivals. That’s right, the fun doesn’t stop! This week, we’ve got lots of festivals and activities throughout the five boroughs. Families can enjoy unicycle sumo wrestling, pony rides, puppet shows and musical performances. But that’s hardly the end of the fun. There are lots of great art pieces to check out at the Children’s Museum of the Arts too. Here is the week ahead.

Weekend Family Events - August 29 and August 30  
There's no talk about winding down summer here, this weekend is filled with summertime for all. The Arthur Ashe Kids' Day Festival is back at the USTA Tennis Center in Queens and features plenty of games, prizes and tennis of course! The 10th Annual Shorebird Festival takes place at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Queens where you can watch, photograph and learn all about birds. And taking place in Brooklyn is the 39th Annual Brighton Jubilee, where multiple stages of music and food collide to make one awesome day for all! Also taking place in Brooklyn is the 238th anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn. Green-Wood hosts a day of free commemoration ceremonies, trolley tours, and 18th-century living. The Week Ahead: August 24 - August 30  
Can you believe it? The last full week of August is already here. Two Mondays from now, we’ll celebrate Labor Day and get back to school. But before that happens, we can make this last week of August count. There are a lot of big events going on this week, ranging from a Kids Day celebration at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens to The Great New York State Fair. That’s not all. There are plenty of family friendly shows to check out this week as part of the FringeNYC Festival. Here are our picks for the week ahead.

Weekend Family Events - August 22 and August 23  
This weekend is finger lickin' good at Hudson River Park’s Blues BBQ Festival taking place on Saturday. America’s best Blues and Roots musicians along with New York City’s best BBQ restaurants are sure to bring fun for all. Also happening downtown is the opening of the SeaGlass Carousel in Battery Park, this new carousel is sure to become a NYC classic. Feel free to belt out "Part of your World" and "Under the Sea" while riding! LIC Block Party by SculptureCenter in Queens features artist-led activities, live music, performances and much more. And FringeJR part of Fringe Festival (FringeNYC) is the largest multi-arts festival and has plenty of family friendly shows happening during the weekend. Enjoy your weekend! The Week Ahead: August 17 - August 23  
Summer vacation is over? Not quite! From learning how to harvest honey to watching awesome family friendly films at the Fringe Festival, there are still lots of great ways to celebrate the last few weeks of August. This week, we’re stopping by the Voelker Orth Museum to learn about bees, heading to Fort Greene for a literary festival, enjoying a summer BBQ while listening to the Blues, dancing and seeing one last free Shakespeare show before the end of summer. Weekend Family Events - August 15 and August 16  
This weekend has events all over NYC in many different directions. Head south and view the famous sand sculpting contest at Coney Island where you can enjoy amateurs and professionals creating masterpieces from giant lumps of sand. Or put on your dancing shoes and your best 1920's garb for the Jazz Age Lawn Party at Governors Island all weekend long and a Victory Day Family Swing Dance at Battery Park on Saturday evening. If you head all the way in the opposite direction and go north you will hit Harlem Week's Children's Day which features live performances and many activities for the whole family to enjoy. In the west is the FlyNYC Kite Flying Festival or head east to Queens for the King Manor Museum craftsman day. On your compass this weekend, all directions point to fun! The Week Ahead: August 10 - August 16  
The summer is quickly drawing to a close. “Back to School” sale signs are peppered through department store windows, summer camps are coming to a close and kids are looking to enjoy the last weeks of summertime before school begins. Thankfully, summertime events in NYC never really fizzle out. There’s plenty to enjoy in our city, from kite flying celebrations to dance festivals. This week, we’re heading out to Coney Island to build sand castles, enjoying Jazz on our favorite Island, taking in dance performances in Harlem and Battery Park and enjoying a few more Broadway musicals and Shakespearean plays. This weekend you can hear dragons roar, watch soldiers salute, dance the Charleston, say Great Scott! and wear one white rhinestone glove. The 25th Annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is taking place in Flushing Meadows Corona Park all weekend long. Governors Island is hosting their annual Civil War weekend. It's the 5th Annual History Day at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park, Coney Island’s oldest amusement park taking place on Saturday. Get ready for a fantastic week in NYC. And, that’s not just because the Fantastic Four is coming to theaters this Friday. This week, we’re excited to head out to Flushing Meadows Parks to enjoy the 25th Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in the city. We’ll also learn about several “Rad American Women,” enjoy more theater in the park and listen to cowboy songs in Brooklyn. Did we also mention there’s a Siamese cat and an evil dragon?
