Introducing some focus to your child's summer might peak your kid's interest in certain summer camps. There are a variety of themed camps that specialize in art, science, culinary arts and even literary pursuits. We have rounded up a few specialty camps that might get your children excited about the upcoming summer.

Arts in Action Visual Art Program
Age range: 5-14

Offerings: Budding artists visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art each week to see the works of the great masters and learn about different techniques and media. In sketchbooks they create their own vision of the artists’ work. The rest of the week is spent at the studio creating art based on their learning from the museum and other projects.

Weekly options: Flexible enrollment options are available with 1, 2, 3 and 4 two-week sessions.

Wildlife Conservation Society Summer Camp

Offerings: Children with a real passion for and love of animals are in for a treat with camp offerings from the Wildlife Conservation Society Summer Camp. These camps are located within Zoos around the five boroughs. With programming for all age groups, children are introduced to the world of animals and science with age-themed activities, animal encounters, hands-on science and exhibit visits.

Weekly options: Camp runs for six weeks with flexible enrollment options on a week-by-week basis.

Offerings: Budding foodies and chefs explore the full food cycle by learning the complete farm-to-table experience. Each day they participate in activities such as planting seeds, composting, harvesting food, cooking lunch, and writing their own cookbooks. Additionally, campers participate in “Top Chef” challenges and make visits to the local farmer’s market and restaurants.

Weekly options: Flexible enrollment is available on a two-week basis or by 2, 4 and 6-week sessions. (If you register before March 15, a 10% discount is available).

Children's Movement & Art Summer Day Camp

Offerings: The Ballet Club and Little Picasso have joined forces to provide a summer full of dancing and art. For the dance portion campers experience ballet, creative dance, drama and yoga. The art portion includes a variety of activities including air-dry clay projects and three-dimensional painting.

Offerings: What better place for a kid to learn about architecture and design than New York City! This weekly camp teaches architecture and design through building activity, walking tours and site visits. Based on age group, children learn all there is to know about digital design, drawing architecture, skyscrapers, playground design, garden layouts, bridge design and structure, city planning and design, store and furniture design, and eco-friendly design requirements. Check their website for upcoming information sessions to learn more about the camp and a scholarship opportunity.

Offerings: Programs are designed to engage all ages in mental and physical challenges. Younger campers participate in a Math & Science FUNdamental program including activities such as: math games, hands-on math projects, and craft-building and science projects. Older campers spend their days indoors building projects and learning the math and science behind their work, and outside at Central Park.

: Flexible enrollment options are available on a week-by-week basis. Each session is theme based and campers are welcome to sign up for multiple weeks.

Offerings: If you are looking for a summer camp that incorporates dancing, singing, playing and swimming, this is the camp for you! A different artistic-based program is rotated each week in dance, acting, art projects and musical performance. In addition, campers participate in bi-weekly instructional swimming and weekly field trips.

In addition, based on age group, campers participate in daily character-based games and visit a major publishing house.
